South Islands Dive Sites

Hin Daeng is undoubtedly one of the best dive sites in Thailand. This massive limestone pinnacle which only protrudes about three meters above the surface is huge and impressive under the water. On the southwest side a vertical wall drops straight down to over 50 meters. No other spot in Thailand, except neighboring Hin Muang, has a wall like this. The pinnacle is covered with colorful soft coral and oysters, and huge beds of anemones in the shallower areas. On the eastern side where the slope is more gentle, two long ridges descend into the blueness where, if the currents are favorable, it is possible to descend down to 40 meters or more. Here the soft coral becomes more lush and tall, and huge schools of jacks, giant barracudas and fusiliers sweep past the ridge. Keep your eyes open at about 25 meters for the giant mantas that are always in attendance. The acrobatic maneuvers of these large creatures is certainly something you will never forget.

Currents moderate to strong, for intermediate to advanced divers. Depth: to 50+ meters. The Best Dive Site of Southern Thailand!

Hin MuangHin Muang (600 Meters West of Hin Daeng)

This site compares favorably with some of the best sites in the country. The reef which is composed mainly of rock is approximately 200 meters long, less than 20 meters wide, and is shaped like an immense loaf of bread with steep vertical sides and a rounded top. The rock is completely covered with hard and soft coral, sea fans and anemones. The richness of aquatic life here compares to that found in the Similans, while oceanic visitors abound. Whale Sharks, Silver Tips, Giant Mantas; just about anything might decide to show up! Don't miss this dive site it is a must see!!!

Currents moderate to strong, for intermediate to advanced divers. Depth: to 55+ meters. One of the many Hidden Treasures of Southern Thailand!

Koh HaKoh Ha Islands (West of Koh Lanta)

Koh Ha is a group of five small islands between Phi Phi and Hin Daeng, about 25 Km west of Koh Lanta. Usually visited by Hin Daeng Liveaboards or Koh Phi Phi Day Trips. Ko Ha offers a wide range of diving possibilities, but the best is the island of Ko Ha Yai. The highlight of the diving here are two enormous caverns with their entrance at approximately 12 meters. The light filtering through the cave entrance at sunrise is quite magical. If you surface inside the cave the glow of the emerald water and the huge stalactites hanging from the ceiling are something to behold. Start the dive to the west of the caverns where the visibility is generally superb and work your way east to the highlight of the caverns.

Currents tend to be calm, for divers of all levels. Depth: to 35+ meters. Enjoy the caves of Ko Ha!
