Koh Bida Nai (South End of the Phi Phi Islands Chain)
Bida Nai is a limestone monolith which rises straight from the water, to a height of 40 meters and then drops to the sea bed at depths ranging from 18-22 meters. The magnificent underwater topography, is dominated by gently sloping walls, fallen boulders, and an undulating sandy sea bed. Divers will enjoy schools of colorful reef fish, multi-colored plume worms, bushy feather stars, as well as, vibrant red and pink soft corals. While moray eels, spiny lobsters, and octopuses attempt to obscure themselves in the many craggy holes and crevices; free-swimming blacktips, barracudas, and the occasional Whale Shark patrol the blue!
Currents weak to moderate, for divers of all levels. Depth: to 24+ meters. One of the many Hidden Treasures of Diving Thailand!
Koh Bida Nok (South End of the Phi Phi Islands Chain)
While similar to Bida Nai in appearance above the surface, Bida Nok is significantly different under the water. Over the ions nature has created incredible underwater caves, overhangs and swim-through's in the soft limestone rock. The southwest section of this site is littered with large boulders on the sea bed, which form a mountain like terrain. This area is swarming with large marine predators. The southeast section of the island features a finger reef covered with whip coral, barrel sponges and a multitude of vividly colored reef fish. The varied topography doesn't end here; Bida Nok also offers a small sheltered bay covered with gorgeous anemones, and huge star corals. Marine life is also more varied here than on Bida Nai. Along with the opportunity to see multiple leopard sharks resting in the sand, divers will see plenty of scorpion fish, enormous gorgonian sea fans, giant titan triggerfish and massive barrel sponges that are hundreds of years old. This dive site rates as one our favorite spots on the planet!
Currents weak to moderate, for divers of all levels. Depth: to 30+ meters. Ko Phi Phi Diving is one our favorites!
Garang Heng (East of the Phi Phi Islands Chain)
A small submerged reef east of the Phi Phi Islands, also know for excellent Leopard Shark Activity. The reef which is predominately gorgeous soft coral, huge sea fans, and enormous barrel sponges is generally patrolled by massive schools of yellowtail barracuda, blue lined snapper, and gold striped fusiliers. The Leopard Sharks here are a bit more active, swimming right up to you for a look.
Currents moderate to strong, for divers of all levels. Depth: to 22+ meters. A Phi Phi Islands best kept secret!
Hin Bida (South of the Phi Phi Islands Chain)
Famed for its incredible numbers of Leopard Sharks, Hin Bida is also commonly referred to as Phi Phi Shark Point (not to be confused with Phuket Shark Point). Lying just 8 Km. south of Phi Phi Leh this rocky outcrop, which just breaks the surface at low tide, is host to pristine soft corals, huge plate corals, leopard sharks, clown fish, enormous cuttle fish, and the occasional Whale Shark during February and March. The reef which is quite long and arrow shaped is surrounded with boulders and is quite difficult to see in just one dive. The north side drops to sand at 21 meters and the south, which is covered in magnificent soft corals, drops to sand at 18 meters. Keep your eyes open for spotted eagle rays and the white banded sea snake, commonly seen on this dive site.
Currents moderate to strong, for divers of all levels. Depth: to 21+ meters. One of the hidden dive sites of Ko Phi Phi!
Maya Bay (Southwestern end of the Phi Phi Islands Chain)
The enormous sheer-cliffed lagoon at the southwestern corner of Phi Phi Ley was made famous by the movie "The Beach", starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Today, Maya Bay is visited more by divers and snorkelers, in search of nemo, than by movie producers.
The Walls of Maya Bay which are stunningly beautiful above the water are equally as magnificent below the water and can be dived on the outer edges of the bay to the north or the south. The walls are covered in mainly hard corals and surrounded by dramatic rock formations which have created towering channels and swim through's ideal for exploration. On the northern edge of the south wall there is a school of Black Tip Reef Sharks constantly patrolling at about 10 meters. For certified cave divers there are numerous caves ideal for exploration.
